Second Round of UK-U.S. FTA Negotiations Concludes; Round Three Expected this July

The second round of the UK-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations continued by video conference from 15-26 June 2020, building on the positive and constructive talks to date and covering a range of chapters. During the round, talks advanced across a number of these chapters and there was good progress on a dedicated SME chapter. This included agreement that the next formal UK-U.S. SME Dialogue will be held in Boston in October 2020. Trump signs a proclamation halting H-1B work visas and other temporary visas

Courtesy of The Business Insider President Donald Trump extended a freeze on immigration visas through the end of 2020 in a proclamation he signed on Monday, The proclamation extends the 60-day freeze on work visas put in place in April. A wide swath of professions will be affected, including those in the tech industry and at universities, as well as au pairs. H-1B, H-2B, H-4, J-1, and L-1 visas will be halted under the order. New US-UK agreement boosts UK’s spaceport plans

The UK and US governments have signed a new agreement paving the way for US companies to operate from UK spaceports and export space launch technology. UK Ambassador Dame Karen Pierce and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Non-proliferation, Christopher Ford, signed the US-UK Technology Safeguards Agreement, which will enable U.S. companies to participate in space launches from the United Kingdom, on Tuesday 16 June 2020. The Agreement means US space and technology companies throughout the supply chain can contribute to and benefit from the commercial opportunities offered by the UK space sector which already employs 42,000 people and generates an income of £14.
