In late February 2018, British-American Business Connections (BABC-PNW) had the honor of presenting regional nonprofit, Teens In Public Service (TIPS), with a $1,000 charitable donation, contributing to their mission of producing future leaders committed to their communities by connecting teens with life-changing opportunities and internships at nonprofit organizations.

Selected as BABC-PNW’s regional charitable partner in 2017, TIPS was founded in 1997 with a goal of offering meaningful paid summer jobs to young teenage leaders. Through its Summer Internship Program, TIPS provides paid positions for enrolled, high school youth at local nonprofit organizations. The internships offer teens practical work experience, an understanding of ethical leadership, and a venue to put their values into action. Nonprofit partners gain additional staff during the summer months, at no cost to their organizations.

BABC-PNW Executive Director, Catherine Filippini, presented the check to TIPS Executive Director, Linda Tessier during a visit to the Bailey Boushay House, a TIPS nonprofit partner that serves people with HIV/AIDS as well as those who need end-of-life care with conditions including cancer, ALS and Huntington’s disease, among others.

“The Bailey Boushay House is a brilliant example of the lasting impacts TIPS cultivates in our community,” said Catherine Filippini, BABC-PNW Executive Director. “Empathy and compassion are fostered in a natural way, teens learn first-hand about the importance of community service, and patients benefit from loving and compassionate companions and care.”

Catherine notes that the impact is exactly why BABC-PNW chose TIPS and it is why other Puget Sound area businesses should consider lending their support, adding that “cultivating the next generation of business leaders and advocates, is vital to supportive, empathetic and thriving communities now and into the future.”

Through its events, programs and special opportunities, BABC-PNW earmarks a portion of its organizational revenue towards its charitable partnership program. Contributions are typically awarded at the close of each calendar year. To learn more about BABC-PNW’s charitable partner TIPS or to make a direct donation, visit www.teensinpublicservice.org.
